Overview​

Thile — the City of Sails — is a bucolic halfling island city sitting in the midst of the great Stoney River. Founded by halflings as a haven from the dangers of the surrounding lands, it has grown into an important military and mercantile hub, with the most able boatmen in all of the Greenwold.

Atmosphere​

Nearly everything here is sized for Small folk — from the buildings to the baskets. Larger visitors stand awkwardly above the crowd or sit uncomfortably crouched on too-small chairs and benches.

The smell of fish scales and freshly cut flowers drifts through the lanes, depending on which way the cool breeze blows.

The continual sound of the river lapping at the island banks mixes with the shouts of a grizzled sailor drilling fresh deckhands.

Notable Features​

  • Island Isolation: Thile boasts the unique trait that no bridges reach it. The only way on or off the island is by boat. This reliance on watercraft has made halflings the most skilled boatmen in the Greenwold.
  • Halfling Mercenaries: A halfling river captain is capable of sailing circles around larger ships. Their water skills make Thile halflings highly sought as mercenaries, and swaggering halfling sailors are a common sight in the navies of all Greenwold cities.
  • Peaceful Life: For halflings who don't pursue the mercenary lifestyle, Thile offers a relatively safe existence, rich in food and song. Houses and amenities are sized for small creatures, making any visit unexpectedly challenging for larger races.
  • Small Scale: The city is entirely sized for Tiny and Small creatures — gnomes and halflings outnumber all other races combined.
