Fort Pratchett

Overview

The westernmost of the three Outpost Forts, Fort Pratchett plays the most active role in defending the Greenwold's southern border. Roaming patrols ride out from here into the Barrens, hunting any wandering threats from the south.

History

Fort Pratchett was first established when lizardfolk barbarians from the Starless Mire rampaged north on a pillaging spree. Their forces besieged Slew and burned many farms across the Granges. A combined army of Grayhaven militias, Academy Wizards, and adventurers drove the marauders back to the swamps, and a temporary alliance raised the fort shortly thereafter as a southern foothold.

Notable Features

  • Southern Patrol Range: The most aggressive of the three forts in terms of active patrols into the Barrens.
  • Road East: A road extending east from Slew passes through each of the three forts before continuing on, providing supply lines and communication across the region.

Notable Figures

  • Kahratine Scargiver — Commander. Dragonborn paladin and Knight of the Spire. Commands the respect of troops and the ear of many Greenwold councilors. Regards magic-users with suspicion, treating them as potential agents or spies.

Connections

  • One of three Outpost Forts along the southern border; the others are Fort Prefect and Fort Ohmu
  • Road runs east through Fort Prefect and Fort Ohmu
  • Serves as the primary defense point against threats moving north out of the Starless Mire
  • Has ongoing communication with the Merchant Princes of Slew

Recent Developments

Assorted beasts from the Starless Mire — crocodiles, buzzards, vermin — have begun speaking in the Common tongue, screaming dire prophecies from the dark. Commander Scargiver sent an urgent request to the Merchant Princes of Slew seeking anyone with knowledge of druidic circles or divine lore who might explain the phenomenon.
